Alessio Ferrato is a PhD student at the AI Lab of Roma Tre University, under the supervision of Prof. Carla Limongelli and Prof. Giuseppe Sansonetti. His academic interests span IoT, personalization, and learning technologies applied across various domains. His doctoral work explores how artificial intelligence can improve cultural heritage fruition, with a focus on creating adaptive and context-aware visitor experiences in museums and galleries.

POVZETEK:
This research aims to enrich visitor experiences in Cultural Heritage institutions through AI. Since we work with physical environments, the foundation is an Indoor Positioning System (IPS) that tracks visitor behavior and location. With the IPS we can implicitly infer where visitors spend time and to model their interests. Consequently, we can provide personalization through custom descriptions and adaptive learning experiences tailored to different visitor categories. The ultimate goal is to integrate a recommender system that filters artworks based on user interests and spatial-temporal constraints, creating a fully personalized museum tour. The feasibility of our IPS has been validated in a major gallery in Rome, achieving high accuracy across 17 rooms and over 90 artworks. Our experiments with LLM-generated content demonstrate that visitors prefer personalized descriptions aligned with their profile.
