PhD student Yuki Shimizu, who was staying as part of the Erasmus exchange program with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matjaž Kljun and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Klen Čopič Pucihar from the Department of Information Sciences and Technologies at UP FAMNIT summarised his research field and collaboration with the Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory at the University of Primorska in a brief statement.
“I am Yuki, and I come from Japan. I study at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology. My research topic is human-computer interaction, with a particular focus on how to enhance the passenger experience inside autonomous vehicles. Currently, I am investigating what kind of system can be implemented to reduce the sense of movement for passengers during driving. Finally, I want to combine two approaches from the HICUP lab and Japan to achieve this goal.”
Prof. Shlomo Berkovsky from Macquarie University in Australia visited Marko Tkalčič at the end of May. He is an expert in user modelling systems and human-computer interaction. His recent work has focused on applying artificial intelligence methods to personalised healthcare.
On Monday, May 26, 2025, he gave a lecture titled "Personality Sensing: Detection of Personality Traits Using Physiological Responses to Image and Video Stimuli" as part of the Monday RIN Seminar. During his visit, he was introduced to the research activities of the HICUP Laboratory.
Towards the end of May, Shareshian John from the University of Washington in St. Louis was also a guest at Professor Russ Woodroofe’s.
