Friday, 23 May 2025 FAMNIT Hackathon 4.0 — A Weekend of Innovation and Collaboration
The GDG On Campus UP (GDG Primorska) has, for the fourth year in a row, brought together programming and coding enthusiasts at the Famnit Hackathon 4.0, held at the UP FAMNIT premises.
From May 16 to May 18, 2025, the University of Primorska hosted FAMNIT Hackathon 4.0, a 3-day programming event that brought together 40 students, divided into 10 teams, for a weekend of creativity, learning, and high-energy teamwork.
One of the main highlights of this Hackathon was the presence of a special guest, Prof.Toralf Trautmann from the University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTWD). As part of the competition, Prof. Trautmann presented a challenge topic on autonomous driving and the use of sensor data from vehicles to create intelligent features. Besides his academic contribution, he also mentioned the upcoming FAMNIT x HTWD Hackathon – a joint event scheduled for September.
The best teams were awarded generous prizes from the sponsors at the end; the first-place team received 500 euros, the second-place team 250 euros, and the third-place team a 200-euro voucher for purchases at the Big Bang store – the top three teams received both vouchers and cash prizes.
The judges of the 4th Hackathon were representatives from Actual I.T., Prof. Trautmann, Arsen Matej Golubovikj (assistant at UP FAMNIT and representative of HICUP Lab), and the GDG On Campus UP organizing team.
Winning teams of the 4th Hackathon:
- 1st place – Wizards of OS (Vedran Gvozderac, Alja Eremic, Luka Jack Komljen, Alexandra Zecevic)
- 2nd place – Bumbari (Nikola Murgoski, Filip Srostran, Pavel Jolakoski, Zhivko Stoimchev)
- 3rd place – Rainbow6 (Matej Kunovski, Gorazd G. Gajdov, Nikola Severov, Stefan Radojicik)
Other teams also developed excellent programming solutions, and many students were invited to follow-up meetings with sponsor to discuss potential internship opportunities.
We thank all companies and organizations that showed interest in networking with our students, especially Actual I.T. and HICUP Lab. During the competition, representatives also took on mentoring roles and formed the jury evaluating the final solutions.
The main event sponsor, Actual I.T., played a key role by presenting a technical challenge focused on Digital Twin technologies in Transport/Logistics and Berthing enhanced with AI augmentation. Actual I.T. also organized a special career workshop for students during the competition, where participants received feedback to help them prepare for their first job interviews.
Throughout the entire weekend, participants were provided with meals and energy drinks continuously supplied by Food Point Ninetynine, Fast Food Magic, and Red Bull, which helped competitors maintain their energy during the entire competition.
The organizers express sincere thanks to the UP Career Center for supporting company connections, the FAMNIT promotion team for increasing event visibility, and the FAMNIT Student Council for their assistance throughout the process. Special thanks go to Michelle Fernandu, Nadun Liyanage, Nilukshan Krishnara, Kosar Seyyedhosseinzadeh, and Mahesh Weerasinghe for their dedication and time.
