Applications Open for the 2027 L’ORÉAL-UNESCO For Women in Science National Programme

For the 21st consecutive year, promising young Slovenian women scientists in the fields of natural sciences, biotechnology and medicine have the opportunity to receive an award of €7,000 each.

Ljubljana, Slovenia, 27 October 2026: The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science National Programme in Slovenia has been running for more than two decades. This year’s call for applications is open from 12 October to 12 November 2026. Applications are open to young researchers in the final stage of their doctoral studies in the fields of natural sciences, biotechnology or medicine. The award recipients will be announced in mid-2027. Three young Slovenian women scientists will each receive an award of €7,000.

The aim of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science programme is to support outstanding young women scientists and researchers in Slovenia and around the world who contribute to the advancement of science and society through their achievements, vision and dedication. The programme is one of the most recognised initiatives of its kind and has, over the years, become a symbol of commitment to gender equality in science, earning a strong reputation within the scientific community.

The call is open to researchers in the fields of natural sciences, biotechnology or medicine who, during the 2026/2027 academic year, are in the final stage of their doctoral studies, conduct their research at a Slovenian research institution and are no older than 35.

The L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science National Programme is organised by L’Oréal Adria, the Slovenian National Commission for UNESCO, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation. It was established in 2006, following the example of the international programme. By the end of 2026, a total of 58 outstanding young women scientists who were on the verge of completing their doctoral studies had received awards.
