“Šeraj ljubezen, ne bolezen” (Share Love, Not the Virus) – HPV Vaccination for Students and Young Adults

We invite all young people up to the age of 26 who have not yet been vaccinated against HPV to join the Share Love, Not the Virus campaign. The campaign will take place on Monday, 12 October 2026, also at the Koper Community Health Centre and the Piran Community Health Centre, Lucija Unit in Portorož. An appointment is required for vaccination.

Vaccination is free of charge for foreign students as well, up to the age of 26, provided they are covered by Slovenia’s compulsory health insurance.

What do I need to know about HPV?

HPV is a large group of viruses that can cause six types of cancer in both men and women. Cancers caused by HPV infections include cervical cancer, penile cancer, anal cancer, vaginal cancer, vulvar cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer. Around 200 people in Slovenia are diagnosed each year with cancers caused by HPV infections.

HPV is transmitted through close skin-to-skin or mucous membrane contact, such as sexual intercourse (of any kind). However, even more intimate physical contact, such as kissing, cuddling, rubbing, or touching with the hands, can be enough for transmission. Using a condom does not completely prevent HPV infection. Since HPV infection often causes no symptoms, we may not even be aware that we have it and can unknowingly pass it on to others.

HPV infection is very common: around 90% of sexually active people become infected with the virus at least once in their lifetime.
