Today, October 14, 2026, this year’s recipients of the highest national awards and recognitions for outstanding achievements in scientific research and development (Zois and Puh awards and prizes, and the Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia) were announced in Ljubljana. Among the recipients is Prof. Dr Ademir Hujdurović (UP FAMNIT, UP IAM), who received the Zois Award for significant achievements in in the field of algebraic and structural graph theory.
The recipients were announced at the National and University Library by prof. dr. Maja Ravnikar, Chair of the Slovenian Committee for the Award of Prizes and Recognitions for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research and Development. The announcement took place today, and the awards will be presented at a formal ceremony in the Gallus Hall at Cankarjev dom on 8 November, marking the start of the celebrations for Science Day, which is celebrated in Slovenia on 10 November.
We sincerely congratulate the winner!
Prof. Dr Ademir Hujdurović (UP FAMNIT, UP IAM)
is awarded
Zois Award for significant achievements in in the field of algebraic and structural graph theory
When using the internet, navigation systems, mobile phones or social networks, we become part of complex systems of connections that can be described mathematically. Mathematician Prof. Dr Ademir Hujdurović studies the structure of these systems.
He studies graph theory, a branch of mathematics that examines networks and the relationships between connected elements. It primarily reveals hidden patterns and symmetries, enabling us to better understand the functioning of highly complex systems and predict their properties. Such mathematical models are used to understand a wide variety of systems, ranging from transport and communication networks to connections between data, people and molecules.
In recent years, he has developed new mathematical approaches and solved several important open problems in the field of algebraic graph theory. As a researcher, mentor and dean, he also makes a significant contribution to the international recognition of Slovenian mathematics and continues the tradition of the world-renowned Slovenian school of graph theory.
