The University of Primorska successfully held UP Researchers’ Night on 24 and 25 September 2026, in parallel with the European Researchers’ Night 2026. The event brought together researchers, children, young people, and the wider public at various locations, offering an opportunity to discover the fascinating world of science.
The programme, which took place at UP’s member faculties and institutions in Koper, Izola, Piran, Portorož, Rodik, and Slovenj Gradec, offered visitors insights into various fields of research and the opportunity to try their hand at research activities themselves.
The event began on Thursday, 24 September, with the Health and Science Open Day at UP FVZ in Izola. The main programme followed on Friday, 25 September, when the other UP member faculties and institutions hosted a variety of research, educational, and creative activities.
On Friday, 25 September, at Livade 1.0 premises in Izola, assist. Aja Bončina, from the Molecular Ecology Group UP FAMNIT, introduced participants to modern genetic methods for monitoring biodiversity. Participants learned how researchers can obtain valuable data for the study, conservation, and management of animal populations from environmental DNA, hair, faeces, and other traces left by animals.
UP Researchers’ Night thus demonstrates how direct engagement with science can raise new questions, inspire curiosity, and bring together people of different generations.
