UP FAMNIT at the Aquaculture Europe 2026

Aquaculture Europe 2026 took place in Ljubljana from 28 September to 1 October 2026, organised by the European Aquaculture Society (EAS), in close partnership with the University of Ljubljana’s Biotechnical Faculty and Slovenia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food (MKGP). UP FAMNIT was one of the event’s supporters.

With its flagship annual event, Aquaculture Europe 2026, EAS continued to build and strengthen the aquaculture ecosystem. Ljubljana hosted the 50th edition of the Society’s flagship annual conference. The aquaculture industry looked towards the future, raising the question of whether aquaculture could become a more significant source of food while also becoming more resilient and environmentally responsible.

The event, attended by more than 2.300 experts and researchers from around the world, offered a diverse and content-rich programme, including scientific and professional presentations, panel discussions on current challenges in aquaculture, industry forums, satellite events and workshops related to European projects, professional visits, as well as numerous opportunities for networking and collaboration.

An important part of the event was the international exhibition, which showcased the latest technologies from regional and international companies in the form of products and services for the aquaculture sector. The exhibition provided opportunities for direct connections between researchers, companies and other stakeholders, while also fostering new business opportunities. UP FAMNIT was presented as part of the pavilion of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food of the Republic of Slovenia (MKGP).

The participants were addressed at the opening by State Secretary Velislav Žvipelj. He emphasised that climate change and changing aquatic ecosystems require new approaches to food production. Aquaculture can also make an important contribution to food security and a stable food supply.

The conference and its accompanying programme represented an excellent opportunity for everyone working in the fields of aquaculture, the blue economy, sustainable food production, biology and environmental sciences.
