Environmental Conflicts Lab – International Workshop on Environmental Conflicts

23 October 2026 | 9:00–15:00 | UP FAMNIT, Livade 1.0, Izola

On Friday, 23 October 2026, UP FAMNIT will host the international workshop Environmental Conflicts Lab: Stakeholder Perspectives and Conflict Transformation in Environmental Governance at Livade 1.0 in Izola. The workshop is organised within the project Building Bridges between People and Nature through Conflict Transformation, funded through the Transform4Europe (T4EU) Seed Funding programme.

The workshop will bring together researchers from Saarland University, Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, the University of Trieste and the University of Primorska, as well as students from the University of Trieste and the University of Primorska.

The first part of the workshop, from 9:00 to 11:00, will be open to everyone interested. It will feature case studies of environmental conflicts from different European countries, highlighting different stakeholder perspectives and approaches to their involvement in finding solutions. The remainder of the workshop will be interactive and reserved for participants invited in advance.

About the project

This exploratory project takes an initial step toward exploring conflicts between different stakeholders in environmental contexts and their productive management. Its aim is to identify and discuss the types of conflicts that frequently occur in environmental protection and conservation, while also assessing the need for structured approaches to address them. To this end, we will bring together members from different faculties across the T4EU network and organise online meetings, including a round table and a workshop, involving external specialists as well. These activities will generate concrete insights into the nature of environmental conflicts and provide valuable input on the importance of addressing them within education. The expected outcome is a pilot framework for a microcredential (cross-faculty elective course), serving as a first step toward embedding conflict transformation and productive management skills into existing environmental and related programmes. The microcredential will follow the T4EU joint strategy and framework on micro-credentials.

The project is led by Živa Fišer from the University of Primorska, with the participation of Tatiana Tomova from Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski and Florian Weber from Saarland University.
