Research

The faculty’s researchers are active within the UP FAMNIT Research Group. At the same time, the faculty maintains close cooperation in the field of research with the Andrej Marušič Institute of the University of Primorska (UP IAM). Staff from both institutions participate in research programmes, basic and applied projects, and other scientific research activities, regardless of their institutional affiliation.

The faculty conducts and co-develops scientific research programmes and numerous basic, applied, and postdoctoral research projects funded by the Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency (ARIS), as well as international projects (Horizon 2020, LIFE, Interreg…), Erasmus+ projects, bilateral scientific cooperation projects, and trains young researchers. Additionally, the faculty is involved in the University of Primorska’s infrastructure program, financed by ARIS, and carries out other national projects outside of ARIS funding.

The research excellence of the faculty is also evident through activities related to co-editorship of international scientific journals. Notably, this includes the SCI-indexed journal Ars Mathematica Contemporanea (AMC) and the international scientific journal The Art of Discrete and Applied Mathematics (ADAM), which was included in the SCOPUS list in 2020.

The faculty organizes and co-organizes conferences and other scientific meetings, while also encouraging the active participation of faculty members and associates at international scientific conferences and promoting international integration in general. Special emphasis is placed on research collaboration with foreign researchers, short-term visits by international scholars within the faculty’s educational and research processes, and visits of faculty staff to renowned foreign universities. Particular attention is devoted to young researchers and associates.

Our professors and researchers are recipients of numerous awards and recognitions. Among these, we especially highlight awards and recognitions from the University of Primorska, as well as the highest national honors in the field of science—the Zois Awards and Zois Recognitions—that acknowledge the exceptional achievements of our staff in their respective fields and, by extension, the faculty. From 2012 to 2025, our researchers were awarded eight Zois Awards and an equal number of Zois Recognitions.
