1st Biological Evening 2026/27

Event Details

Lecture description:

Tardigrades, also known as water bears or moss piglets, have become famous as virtually indestructible creatures capable of withstanding extreme temperatures, radiation, and even the conditions of outer space. However, behind their legendary superpowers lies a wealth of even more bizarre phenomena: from ornamented eggs and parasitic lifestyles to missing researchers and deep-sea monsters. During this lecture, we will explore their bizarre biology and discover fascinating facts that are rarely covered in popular science media.

Lecturer: Maša Herzog (UL BF)

Maša graduated in Biology from the Biotechnical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana in 2024. She is actively involved in the Biology Students’ Association, particularly in various creative projects. She is also a member of the Slovenian Bat Research and Conservation Society, where she has been involved in bat rehabilitation and has created illustrations for T-shirts, brooches, and an informative popular science brochure about bats.

She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Ecology and Biodiversity, with her thesis focusing on marine tardigrades in Slovenia. Alongside her studies, she works as a tour guide at the Slovenian Museum of Natural History.
